Born Paul Jackson Pollock
in Cody Wyoming in 1912. A leading figure in
abstract expressionism, Pollock studied at
Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles. Later he
enrolled in Thomas Hart Benton's class at the
Arts Student League where he studied mural
painting and learned the rudiments of drawing
and composition.
Pollock suffered from Alcoholism and during the
1930's underwent psychiatric treatment. In 1938
he suffered a nervous breakdown and was
hospitalized.
His first one-man-show took place in 1943 and by
the late 1940' he has developed the drip and
pour process.
Pollock was married to the artist Lee Krasner
and died in a car accident near his home on Long
Island in 1956.
